"Pat" Puttick (nee Doris Louise Paterson)

12 August 1907 - March 2005

The daughter of a Horsted Keynes farmer, Pat came to Worthing in 1927. Having an interest in young people she joined the 11th Worthing as Assistant Cubmaster.

Following the resignation of the then cubmaster she was asked to re-start the 8th Worthing, which she did in 1930 with a pack of 7 boys.

Under her leadership the pack went from strength to strength, the 8thA pack being formed in 1944. At that stage there were 40 boys in the two packs and she ran both (on different nights) for a while.

In 1942 Pat married Bert Puttick, a local scouter, and this consolidated her commitment to and involvement in the movement in Worthing.

Pat remained as cubmaster in the 8th until 1951 when she was appointed ADC (cubs) for the Worthing district, a post she held until her retirement in 1971.

During her time as ADC she was instrumental in organising a great many district events notably the Cub Jubilee Circus in 1966 and the annual cub St Georges Day parades.

Even after her retirement she kept a keen interest in scouting matters and could often be seen at district events.

Throughout her adult life Pat worked tirelessly for the scout movement in Worthing and will be fondly remembered by several generations of scouts and cubs, many of who are now scattered throughout the world.
