Peter William Wilson

21 September 1933 - May 1991

From "ScoutAbout" June/July 1991:

Peter Wilson's adult service within Scouting began with a Group in Maidstone when he was about 18 and appears to have lasted for about 9 years although most of this time was in unwarranted posts.

In 1960 he was appointed Assistant Scout Master with 8th Worthing Sea Scout Group and then in 1966 he took over as Scout Master (Scout Leader). Peter served for nearly ten years in this role before reverting back to Assistant Scout Leader at the beginning of 1976 and continued to be an active and reliable Leader participating fully in the life of the Troop until ill health forced him to reduce his involvement but not his interest.

In addition to normal Scouting activities Peter has played a major part 'backstage' at many of our Gang Shows and was Stage Manager for several of them.

Peter was awarded the Medal of Merit in 1971 and a Bar to the Medal in 1988.

The following by one of his close associates sums up the way that Peter will be remembered.

"Whoever came into contact with Peter found that he had the natural ability to communicate and befriend on all levels. He was careful to listen to and take an interest in whoever spoke to him."

The 8th Worthing Group and the whole District will be poorer by the loss of Peter and our condolences and sympathy are extended to Margaret and her family at this time.
